Search Engine Optimization, How Long Till I Start to See Results?

by Ricardo d Argence

There is one important factor to remember whenever you are involved in improving the organic rankings of a website, and that factor is time. One of the most common questions I receive as an SEO is How long till I start to see results? This article is dedicated to anyone who has ever asked that question.

It doesn’t matter which techniques you follow, in all case you will be prisoner of time. Search engine rankings don’t come over night, in the vast majority of cases.

You will have to wait no matter what the details of your SEO campaign you are involved in is. Even if your campaign is large, it will still take some time to get results. Just how long you need to wait however, will depend on a large number of factors.

How long it will take for rankings starts with a few key factors.

If your website is not optimized and the navigation is blocking search engine spiders, you can increase your ranking by opening up your site a little more.

If your website has been on the web for some time and still have no links, you will have to wait some extra time. If you already have some links, Google will probably be in to check out things within a week.

Add waiting time if you have a brand new site. Google may find you, but probably not. Waiting for the net to catch up to you will not get your site indexed. To make sure your site gets viewed and cataloged, score a few links and make an XML sitemap.

If your site utilizes a content management system, how flexible is this system for customization? If your current back end will not allow for SEO based changes, this will drastically slow down your ranking progress.

Longer wait times are common for more competitive target phrases, as are additional new content, links, and web pages. Choosing a target phrase with searches and modest competition can the best line to follow. As long as your dream phrase is relevant, you can go after the bigger fish some weeks later.

Take a moment to view the top rated websites for your target phase. If your site has 7 links and 12 pages, you’re likely doomed if, on average, the ranking sites have 10,000 inbound links and 1000 plus pages. You might want to rethink your goals if your competitors are large companies like Amazon and ebay.

If your website is not competing with the top 10 in your genre, changes must be made…or you will have to wait for a long, long time.
